The nephew of former Sequoyah County Sheriff Ron Lockhart was arrested on July 4th in Fort Smith and now faces a series of legal woes he attempted to avoid for years.
According to a report, Anthony Shane Lockhart had been under surveillance living with a "friend" near an elementary school in Fort Smith. Details of the arrest were not revealed, however Lockhart was arrested just before the end of the day on 7/4 and booked on counts of Failure to Pay Fines and Fugitive From Justice Out-of-State.
He is currently being held in the Sebastian County Adult Detention Center awaiting extradition to Sequoyah County.
Lockhart's charges first came to light in April of this year, two months before his uncle, former Sequoyah County Sheriff Ron Lockhart, attempted to run for re-election.
The former sheriff lost to incumbent Sheriff Larry Lane on June 30th in what is being described as the worst defeat in the history of Sequoyah County.
Anthony Shane Lockhart will be transferred to Sequoyah County where he'll face a charge of Failure to Register as a Sex Offender, having avoided the sex offender registry since the days when his uncle "allegedly" removed the sex offenders from public access to avoid embarrassment.
