A fatal accident claimed the life of a 43-year-old motorcyclist on Interstate 40 westbound near the 64-mile marker in Lamar, Johnson County, on Tuesday.

The Arkansas State Police reported the crash occurred at 4:49 p.m., involving a 2012 Yamaha motorcycle and a 2020 Dodge Ram pickup truck. The deceased has been identified as Zachariah B. Contant of Ozark.

According to the preliminary ASP report, the Dodge Ram was traveling westbound on the I-40 on-ramp at the 64-mile marker when the Yamaha motorcycle, also westbound on the interstate, swerved onto the on-ramp and struck the rear of the truck.

Contant, the driver of the motorcycle, was pronounced dead at the scene. No injuries were reported for the driver of the Dodge Ram or any other individuals involved.

The weather was clear, and the road conditions were dry at the time of the crash, per the ASP investigation led by Corporal Lonnie Moore.

Emergency response efforts were captured by iDrive Arkansas cameras, which showed a helicopter landing near Exit 64 to assist, temporarily closing westbound lanes as crews managed the scene.

Contant’s body was transported to the Johnson County Coroner’s Office, and his next of kin have been notified.

This incident marks the 107th fatal crash recorded by the ASP in 2025, according to their ongoing tally. The investigation remains active as authorities work to determine the factors contributing to the collision.
