Arkansas State Police: Tuesday afternoon crash on I540 proves fatal to 48-year-old Mountainburg man


A published preliminary report on the Arkansas State Police and Arkansas Department of Safety website says a 48-year-old man was killed in an accident on i-540 northbound near the Kelley Highway exit.

According to the report filed by ASAP Trooper Logan Hatcher, 48-year-old Roy Williams of Mountainburg was northbound on the interstate and was traveling in the left lane. The Ford F-150 he was driving move to the occupied right lane and collided with a 2020 Buick.


The truck rotated clockwise and struck in unoccupied vehicle parked on the right shoulder. After colliding with the parked. vehicle the truck exited off the right shoulder, hit a tree line and came to rest


Williams was pronounced dead at the scene by the Sebastian County Coroner's office. The driver of the Buick was not transported to any area hospital.


Trooper Hacker noted on the report that weather conditions were clear and the roadway was dry at the time of the accident which occurred at 5:39 p.m. Tuesday.


Williams' death is the 471st of the year in a combined total of 430 accidents so far.
