Authorities with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) reported the discovery of human remains along the banks of the Arkansas River on Thursday evening.
The JCSO received a call around 5:30 p.m. from the Metropolitan Emergency Communication Association after a passerby reported what appeared to be human remains on the riverbank. Deputies responded to the scene and confirmed the discovery.
The remains have been transported to the Arkansas State Crime Lab for further analysis, where experts will work to identify the individual and determine the cause of death.
Sheriff’s office officials stated that the investigation is ongoing, and additional details will be released as they become available.
This marks a somber finding in the region, following a recent report of possible human remains discovered in nearby Pulaski County. Authorities have not indicated whether the cases are related.
