Fort Smith Police releases information on October 11 pedestrian accident that killed pone near Kimmons

Fort Smith, AR – A tragic vehicle-pedestrian accident on Kelley Highway took the life of  a 13-year-old boy who was struck by a vehicle while crossing the street near Kimmons Middle School.

The incident occurred around 5:09 PM Fridy near the intersection of Kelley Highway and 44th Street. According to the incident report filed by the Fort Smith Police Department with the Arkansas Department of Public Safety the driver of a 2016 Dodge Ram was northbound on North 44th Street and stopped at the intersection with Kelley Highway. The truck then turned right and the victim walked into the truck's path.

 The driver, who told authorities he didn't see the victim, remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities and was later arrested on suspicion of driving while impaired.

Sgt. Daniel Vaught of the Fort Smith Police Department worked the accident and noted clear conditions and a dry roadway at the time of the accident.

Information sent to the Arkansas Deprtment of Public Safety n was delayed until notification of the next of kin.
