Fort Smith woman arranged for threat made against Arkansas governor earlier in the month



A 66-year-old Fort Smith woman was arraigned this morning in Sebastian County Circuit Court on charges of Threatening to Cause a Catastrophe, and Battery in the Second Degree on a Law Enforcement Officer. 


Susan Lynette Scott, who resides in the 3200 block of Oak Grove Street in Fort Smith, was arrested June 14 after she contacted the office of Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders and threatened to cause a catastrophe unless the governor's office performed a requested act.


Use of the Threat of a Catastrophe in this manner is a Class D Felony punishable by fines and up to six years imprisonment.


Scott was also charged with battery against the police officer after she physically attacked law enforcement officials during her arrest. She has a previous arrest from 2022for Battery Against a Law Enforcement Official and Resisting arrest


Scott, who has been in the Sebastian County Detention Center since her arrest, remains in custody on a $500,000 legally sufficient bond.


Judge R Gunner delay set the trial before Judge Steve Tabor in Fort Smith District Court at a future date to be determined.
