General Dynamics, U.S. Army open new $110 million 155MM artillery facility in Calhoun County

CAMDEN, Ark.-- General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems, in partnership with the U.S. Army, has launched a state-of-the-art load, assemble, and pack (LAP) facility for 155mm high explosive artillery projectiles near Camden.
The $110 million investment by General Dynamics will create 185 jobs in the region. Once fully operational, the facility’s two LAP lines will produce 50,000 155mm projectiles monthly, filling metal projectile bodies with explosives, assembling components, and packaging them for shipment.

“This facility is a critical step in delivering war-winning capabilities to our Soldiers,” said Secretary of the Army Dan Driscoll. “It strengthens our defense industrial base and ensures we can provide munitions at scale to the joint force, allies, and partners.”

Joshua Thompson, President of General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems, highlighted the facility’s innovative design, calling it a milestone in modernizing U.S. artillery production. “This achievement reflects strong partnerships across the Department of Defense, Congress, and the Camden community,” he said.
Governor Sanders emphasized Arkansas’ growing aerospace and defense sector. “This investment creates jobs and positions Arkansas as America’s arsenal,” she said.
Clint O’Neal, executive director of the Arkansas Economic Development Commission, noted the facility’s role in boosting the state’s economy and global security.
