Little Rock’s poet laureate since 2023, McAdoo is accused of sexually assaulting model during photo shoot

Ron McAdoo

Leron McAdoo, a well-known educator and activist in Central Arkansas, has been accused of sexual assault.

The allegations surfaced on social media on October 1, when 21-year-old model Rari Wright claimed McAdoo assaulted her during a nude photo shoot on August 7 at The House of Art in North Little Rock.

McAdoo, who was named Little Rock’s first poet laureate in 2023, is currently on paid leave from his teaching position at Dr. Marian G. Lacey K-8 Academy pending an investigation by the Little Rock School District. Wright filed a police report on August 14, detailing the assault and stating that McAdoo admitted his actions during a phone call.

Wright filed a report with the North Little Rock Police Department on Aug. 14 that contains

McAdoo “gave her unconsented oral sex and penetrated her digitally. She claimed in a subsequent phone call McAdoo admitted that "what he had done to her was wrong".

In response to the allegations, local groups have distanced themselves from McAdoo. The 7th Street Mural Project announced they would remove his likeness from their murals, and the open mic series “Step Into My Office,” founded by McAdoo’s late son, has moved its events from The House of Art.

In a press release, 7th Street Mural Project noted they had “collectively as a group, decided to remove LeRon Mcadoo from the 7th Street Murals in support of the victims of sexual assault who have come forward about their experiences with him during photo shoots at the House of Art.”

The plurality of that statement has people on both sides of the issues wondering if McAdoo has been accused of similar actions in the past.
