t the request of the Woodruff County Sheriff’s Office, the Arkansas State Police Criminal Investigation Division is investigating an officer-involved shooting that took place in Cotton Plant.
The incident occurred on Monday, at around 6:30 p.m., when the Cotton Plant Police Department (CPPD) responded to reports of a shooting in the 300 block of Rush Street.
Michael Crenshaw, a 21-year-old from Missouri, allegedly shot Linzy Motton, a 65-year-old Cotton Plant resident, before fleeing the scene on foot.
Later, a CPPD officer located Crenshaw walking north on Main Street. When Motton arrived at the same location, a physical altercation ensued between the two men. During the confrontation, Crenshaw reportedly held a firearm to Motton’s head. At that point, a CPPD officer fired his weapon, striking Crenshaw.
Both Crenshaw and Motton were airlifted to hospitals and remain in critical condition. ASP CID Special Agents are compiling a case file to submit to the Woodruff County Prosecuting Attorney, who will review whether the officer’s use of deadly force aligns with Arkansas state laws.
