Oklahoma Highway Patrol investigating accident that left 87-year-old Harper County woman dead


Law enforcement officials in southeast Oklahoma say an 87-year-old Laverne resident is dead after a one vehicle accident Friday afternoon on State Highway 3 in rural Mccurtain County.


According to information from the Oklahoma Highway Patrol a 2016 Nissan driven by 71-year-old Eunice Henderson was southbound on State Highway 3 and just after 3:00 p.m. Friday afternoon.


According to that report the Nissan left the roadway to the right, struck a power line pole, and rolled one half time onto its top side.

Eighty-seven-year-old Bert Lue Smith of Laverne, a passenger in the Nissan, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident due to trunk and internal injuries.

Henderson and a second passenger, 65-year-old Dorothy Moore, we're taken to the McCurtain memorial hospital and was treated and released for head and trunk related injuries.


Police say the cause of the wreck is still under investigation.
