Paris man arrested Tuesday for fleeing and resisting police after exceeding speed limit by 40-miles-per-hour

On Tuesday, Logan County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Sergeant Charly Moua stopped a pick-up truck for going 85 miles per hour in a 45-mile-per-hour zone on Union Road near Paris.

The truck turned onto Kalamazoo Road and attempted to hide at a residence. Sgt. Moua found the vehicle and got out to speak with the driver and when he asked for the driver’s name, the driver drove off in his truck at a high rate of speed.

Sgt. Moua pursued the truck north on Kalamazoo Road. The driver then pulled into another residence on Kalamazoo Road and refused to get out of the vehicle after being instructed to do so.

.Chief Deputy Josh Scott and Logan County Sheriff Jason Massey arrived and the driver, later identified as as Benjamin Stewart, 31, of Paris, still refused to exit the truck after being told he was under arrest for felony fleeing.

Officers then removed Stewart from the truck and Deputy Dylan Parr arrived to assist in the arrest.

Stewart was handcuffed, leg shackled, and transported to the Logan County Detention Center and booked in at 5:17 pm on the felony fleeing, resisting arrest, speeding, driving with a suspended driver’s license, careless and prohibited driving, possession of an open container of alcohol, and obstructing governmental operations.

His vehicle was towed.

In addition to the charges from Monday, Stewart also has a felony warrant out of Booneville, a felony warrant from Broward County, Florida (with full extradition), and misdemeanor warrants from Paris and Sebastian County.

He remains behind bars at the Logan County Detention Center awaiting his first court appearance.
