US Highway 71 three-vehicle crash claims 83year-old Waldron man on Thursday



According to information obtained from the Arkansas State Police a Waldron man was killed and another man was injured in a three-vehicle collision that occurred Thursday on US Highway 71 near the Freedom Creek Road intersection in rural Scott County.


According to a preliminary report posted by the ASP, Howard Dean Canada, 83, of Waldron was driving a 2005 Ford F250 Northbound on US Highway 71 at just after 9:00 p.m. Thursday night . A 2020 Ram 1500 driven by Brandon Sosa, 32, also of Waldron, crossed the center line and struck the Canada truck head-onn


The Dodge truck then entered a counterclockwise rotation and struck the left side of a 2023 Mac truck driving north on US Highway 71. Canada was pronounced dead at the scene and Sosa was transported to Mercy Hospital in Fort Smith for treatment of unspecified injuries.


According to Trooper Ronald Elkins who worked the accident conditions were clear in the roadway was dry at the time of impact.
