Worker at Broken Bow Airport hit, killed by wing of landing small plane on Friday


A 27-year-old idabel woman was killed Friday afternoon at the Broken Bow airport in McCurtain County when she was struck by a plane while cutting grass at the facility.


According to a report by the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, 27-year-old Samantha Hayes was on a riding lawn mower at the airport when a man piloting a small aircraft attempted a touch down. The pilot told officials that he saw Hayes on the lawn mower at the last moment and tried to pull up but was unsuccessful..


Officials with the OHP said one of the wings of the 1972 Bonanza 836 aircraft struck the woman in the head. She was pronounced dead at the scene.


Officials said the accident occurred about 3:30 Friday afternoon.
